Yoga....this word has been making its rounds the last few decades and every Jill ,Jane or Jenny is a yoga teacher. It thrills me to know that so many people are interested in this ancient practice. For those of you who don't know it already the word "Yoga" means "to join" or "to unite". As per Yogic scriptures the practice of Yoga leads to the union of the individual consciousness with that of the Universal consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. That in itself is a beautiful explanation of the word with which I resonate, however for me yoga has a wider range of union. Like any group activity it unites people together, you meet people you wouldn't have met, you connect on a silent level. Each of us are experiencing the class as an individual yet we feel each other in the holds and the folds, the breaths and the flows, the laughs and the groans. And when we all lie in savasana observing our bodies, relaxing mind and body, we all sink down into our mats and connect to each other via our invisible roots. After all we are all connected, the movie Avatar springs to mind. Yoga helps us to calm our minds ,let go of any judgments, of self or others, as you find peace within you will find peace without. Me (right) and my two roommates in Rishikesh, India. Miles apart but always connected.
